Stool Color - Orange/Red pigment

Hi!

Has anyone ever noticed that stool release an orange-red pigment into the water? Not the stool color itself, more like change the water color around of it, not sure how to explain it.

It's like it a halo came off the poop and it was sedimenting. I'm already going crazy, my anxiety won't leave me alone. It doesn't really look like blood, it looks like something else. Blood is bright red, and this is not. It's a mixture of orange and red.

Has anyone by chance seen anything similar?

Probably down to something you are eating. You know that beetroot can change the colour of urine don’t you, so it could be something similar such as strong spices in your food.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I haven't had any significant changes to my diet, it's basically stayed the same.

I'm going to ask my doctor for a stool test because I'm afraid it's blood, even the color isn't bright red. Unfortunately it happens every time, regardless of what I consume.

Blood is normally dark or black when it comes from the rear end. That’s what we are always told to check for.

Best of luck, it’s probably nothing to worry about but best to be sure.

Are you on any medications//longterm antibiotics in capsule 💊 form?

Stool is typically blackish red if blood is coming from higher up in the digestive system, like the stomach. You can see bright red blood in stool if it is from the lower digestive system, like the colon or rectum. It’s good that you’re going to have a stool test to rule out blood.

Thanks! If it’s really blood, it’s Red and super light, because the color is more like orange/Red than bright. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled but sadly it will take a long time :(

If it’s true red and coming from the surface as it sounds if it is surrounding the stool it could well be due to piles. I’d check with your doctor for peace of mind anyway.

I have a doctor's appointment scheduled but sadly it will take a long time :( one thing that is certain is that whatever is, is on the surface only, so i pray it’s a better sign.

I get this all the time when my ibs acts up. It goes away when your gut settles down. Taking any nsaid makes it worse for me.

Thank you so much for your answer! It's the first time I've seen someone with IBS report something like this too. This has been going on for some time, I have a doctor's appointment scheduled but it will take a long time and meanwhile the anxiety has been killing me. I wonder if I could have developed an inflammatory bowel disease or worse, our minds are terrible. Thanks again!

It makes a lot of good sense to have the stool tests done. The FIT test and one for Calprotectin too? That's an inflammation marker.

Well, here was I thinking "that's never happened to me so I have no idea what it is".

But this morning that exact same thing happened! My bm was slightly loose but not so bad maybe a 5 in the Bristol scale (it often can be when my tummy isn't so brilliant but nothing more dramatic happening. And the water had an orangey colour when I took a quick look.

It didn't look like blood at all, just unusual. I didn't think it was foods, as yesterday I had toast, brown and white rice, mackerel, a decent slice of avocado, a bit of kale, some green beans and some courgette steamed, plus a piece of plain sponge cake.

But after a little while I remembered I'd had one dose (a spoonful) of Tormentil herbal tincture that morning. It is a yellowish-orange colour and always stains my tongue yellowish brown. I had never noticed it in the toilet water before.

I think turmeric can do a simliar thing. And lots of foods can have colourings in them.

Hi I have this same problem and just saw this post because I Google searched this same symptom. I see where you said you had a doctor's appt. If you don't mind sharing, did it happen to be anything or did they say it was nothing? I would really appreciate you letting me know because I am having this exact issue and it's scaring me a bit!
